Artist’s Statement

Nothing inspires me more than stories.  My sketchbook is full of characters, clothing, and scenes described in the novels I have read.  Like the Victorians, I love to create a piece of artwork that can be “read”.  Finding details that create a narrative in a work is fascinating to me, as is incorporating narrative elements into my own work.
Certain abstract patterns always find their way into my work.   Work I do on my own almost never has a concept behind it.  I create art for its beauty, or, more often, because the process is enjoyable.  My schoolwork tends to be concerned with natural phenomena that go unnoticed.
